Three deputies had to jump to safety this morning when a woman's car struck the rear of an Orange County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle.

Alexandria Renee Chiles, 19, of Palm Bay was cited for careless driving for 1:30 a.m. crash, said FHP Sgt. Kim Montes.

The parked patrol car was among several emergency vehicles that responded to a water-main break this morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Chiles was headed southbound on State Road 434 in the center lane in her Mazda sedan but did not slow down as she approached the scene where three patrol cars with flashing lights were parked and flares were placed in the roadway.

Deputies were directing traffic around the construction work at Alafaya Trail and Corporate Boulevard but Chiles did not move her Mazda sedan over, Montes said.

When she realized what was happening, Chiles slammed on her brakes and the screeching tires alerted deputies to her approaching car.

No one was hurt, troopers said.
